Who would imagine humor in the problem section of a textbook. This is word for word.
From Hecht: Problem 5.8) Locate the image of an object 1.2m from the vertex of a gypsy's crystal ball, which has a 20-cm diameter (n=1.5). Make a sketch(of the rays, not the gypsy).

that's amazing. sounds like something foreman would slip into one of his tests. maybe the same test that had the legendary "a boat is traveling parallel to a straight beach (not a gay beach)" problem.
i have my uab interviews this coming friday-- 10 of them all in one day. any advice from someone who's been there before? (i know i've done it at louisville, but that was a joke compared to this).
good luck on the test, dude.
Interviews: Are you actually interviewing or is it more a meet and greet (show off time)... The second is what I went through, they were trying to get me to come here by showing the awesomeness here at CREOL. Also met with faculty to help incoming students start thinking about joining research groups. So I wouldn't call what I had an interview.
I have been there before. It's really close to my house. If you're coming from the north, my advice is to get off at fourth avenue south.
patrick, seriously-- get checked for autism. between the memorized street plans and the extremely literal understanding of conversations... you really might have it.
also-- stuff with Regions is settled. but i'll get the statements from you this weekend.
and andrew-- i'm not sure. i think it's sortof a meet-and-greet where they are allowed to ask me hard questions if they feel like it. for some of them, it'll just be hang out time and a list of reasons why i should join their lab. i'm hoping for more of those than the interview-type professors.
um... that's all. i'll keep you posted.
Question not to ask:
Q: What is your topic of research?
A: Look at my web page.
dude is that hecht book the same one we used in optics? i remember him using the word orgy somewhere is that book
